Barry County Court Docket Searches
Sort the case by court before you start a Barry County court docket search. The free MiCOURT Case Search page works as a court picker. It is not one master index for Barry. Circuit cases run under C05. District matters run under D56B. Probate and Family Division work can sit with a different court office even when the dispute touches family life. So pick the court first, then search by name or case number. Keep the notice, ticket, or case number close at hand.
Filters help when a name pulls too many hits. Try a first or middle name, birth year, case status, category, or a filing-date range. Use them where the portal offers them. MiCOURT labels its results informational only. Need a file copy, a recording, or something certified? Contact the court that keeps the case.
- Select the case type and open C05 or D56B in MiCOURT.
- Search by last name or business, or enter the case year, number, and type from the court notice.
- Confirm the court, filing date, status, and next hearing before relying on a match.
- Read the register of actions from the newest entry back when a setting moved or a case changed courts.
- Ask the custodian for review, copies, or certification when the public result is not enough.
Note: A citation number, a case number, and MiCOURT's docket identifier can be three different values. That can happen within one matter.
Older records carry a warning too. A result that looks complete may cover only what that court currently posts. Barry's request memorandum tells anyone lacking a case number or party names to try available indexes or the public case search first. Once you land a match, write down the exact court name and case number. Those details let the clerk pull the right file. They keep your request from going to the wrong Barry County counter.
Barry County MiCOURT Docket Doors
Two public search doors serve Barry County. D56B opens the 56-B District Court route. It covers traffic, civil infractions, adult misdemeanors, small claims, and civil cases within its jurisdiction. C05 opens the 5th Judicial Circuit Court route. That route holds felony trials, major civil cases, and Circuit Family Division categories. A felony often starts in District Court, then a related Circuit case appears after bindover. When a later entry seems missing, check both doors before giving up.
The Barry County home page connects court resources. The direct C05 and D56B searches keep your court choice visible. Public terms may require hCaptcha acceptance. They bar automated collection or bulk download. Those rules protect the access system; they never replace a case-specific request to the court.
MiCOURT's public landing page is where court selection begins.
The county site helps with routing. The register of actions itself lives in MiCOURT, selected court by court.
Court Dockets: What They Show
A Barry County register of actions opens with a header listing the court, case number, case type, filing date, title, judge, status, next hearing, and any public balance. Entries follow in date order. Criminal cases can show charges, plea events, and sentencing. Civil dockets may display pleadings, service, motions, orders, mediation, judgment, or dismissal. A document link on the screen does not promise that every filing is public or downloadable.
| Case ID | MiCOURT models an identifier as CaseYear-CaseNumber-CaseType; use the exact notice value. |
|---|---|
| Parties and roles | Public party, agency, plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, or respondent fields where permitted. |
| Register entries | Chronological filings, orders, notices, hearing events, and disposition entries. |
| Setting | Next-hearing date, time, room, judge, and setting type when published. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome, such as judgment, dismissal, plea, transfer, or default. |
| Financial field | A public balance can be informative, but it is not a certified payoff statement. |
Barry County Certified Docket Copies
Three different products hide behind the phrase Barry County court docket. MiCOURT supplies public case-history information. The clerk or court office arranges inspection and copies of available pleadings, orders, recordings, and other records. A certified copy is different: an authenticated product issued by the custodian. Printing a public result never turns it into one.
The local Trial Court Record/Copy Request asks for a full case number and/or party names. It separates review requests from copy requests. It also lets you name a complete file, excluding nonpublic records, or list specific documents. No universal turnaround, electronic-delivery promise, or full certified-copy price list appears on the form. Call the court of record before mailing payment or paperwork.
Barry County Courts and Their Dockets
Barry County's courts coordinate, but no single docket covers them all. The 5th Judicial Circuit Court takes felony trials, major civil cases, and Circuit Family Division work. The 56-B District Court hears adult misdemeanors, traffic, civil infractions, small claims, civil cases up to $25,000, and the early stage of felony proceedings. Probate handles estates, guardianships, and plan-assigned Family Division matters. Appellate files for qualifying appeals stay with the Michigan Court of Appeals.
| Court | Barry County docket coverage | Public search or custodian |
|---|---|---|
| 5th Circuit | Felonies after bindover, major civil, Circuit Family Division | MiCOURT C05 and the Circuit clerk |
| 56-B District | Misdemeanors, traffic, infractions, small claims, civil matters within $25,000 | MiCOURT D56B and the District Court |
| Probate | Estates, guardianships, and Family Division matters assigned by the local plan | Probate office and the applicable court path |
| Michigan Court of Appeals | Qualifying appellate proceedings | Appellate docket tools and the appellate clerk |
The 56-B District Court page confirms its local jurisdiction and court contact path.
For traffic tickets, misdemeanors, and lower-value civil matters, the District Court is the first public-docket stop in Barry County.
Barry County Two-Building Dockets
Where you go matters. A Barry County court docket may point you to a counter or a hearing, so know the building first. The Historic Courthouse in Hastings sits at 220 W. State Street. It houses the Circuit Judge's courtroom and County Clerk functions. Barry County Courts & Law sits at 206 W. Court Street. It holds the 56-B District Court in Suite 202. The Probate and Chief Judge office is in Suite 302. The county's 2025 Family Court Plan lays out this two-building Trial Court arrangement. Each building offers one public entrance with screening.
Call ahead about practical matters. Ask about public terminals. Ask about a records-room floor, parking, lockers, or any certified-copy cutoff before you visit. The county links ADA and language-access resources from its Trial Court page. Use them if you need an accommodation.

The Trial Court landing page sorts out Circuit, District, Probate, Family Division, schedule, fee, and MiFILE resources before a request gets routed.
Court Dates and Settings in Barry County
Trust the newest register of actions, not an old notice or a stale calendar row. MiCOURT can display a Next Hearing field. The public CourtDisplay model goes further. It lists court, room, judge, date, time, case number, style, setting type, attorney, and prosecutor. Keep one caution in mind. A setting is only a scheduled event. It does not prove the hearing happened or that an older date still stands.
Work from your notice or citation first. Open the matching case and compare Next Hearing with the latest entry. The county's Court Schedules page can help too. For a District or traffic setting, call 56-B at 269-945-1404. For a C05 matter, call the Circuit Court at 269-945-1286. Any continuance, adjournment, pass, reset, or conflict is a signal. Confirm with the court of record. Note: on a traffic matter, the date and response deadline printed on the citation control when they differ from a general calendar instruction.
Barry County Circuit Docket Numbers
The official 2023 Circuit caseload summary offers context without naming individual cases. It counts 416 total caseload across its summary categories. New filings were 339. Total dispositions were 328. Ending pending was 88. The table breaks these into felony criminal, general civil, other civil damage, domestic relations, and personal-protection categories. One caution applies. The state says a caseload report is not a workload report. Do not read it as a count of current active cases.
The District Court's 2021 state summary explains why a Barry County docket search so often starts at D56B. Total caseload came to 5,423. It included 1,349 traffic civil-infraction entries, 1,242 civil entries, 478 misdemeanor entries, and 141 small-claims entries. Those are court-wide categories. They reflect the report vintage, not tallies of live cases or individual outcomes. Still, the numbers carry a lesson. Traffic, lower-court civil, and misdemeanor dockets form a large share of the Barry County court record system. Felony, OUIL/OWI, parking, and other summary categories appear in the same report. Identify the court and case type before searching. The citation or court notice usually supplies that starting point. A misrouted Barry search wastes time.
Michigan's Barry C05 report defines the vintage and category terms behind those totals. Barry County's judges page shows the current public judicial-role context that shapes assignments across these courts.
Knowing each judge's current role helps explain court assignment, but the docket stays the source for case-specific facts.
Docket Access Under Michigan Law
Michigan court records run on court rules, not the county's usual FOIA process. Under MCR 8.119, the clerk must maintain the register of actions and allow inspection or copying of public court records, within stated limits. The County's FOIA page still matters. It covers county administrative records only. A FOIA request stops there. It will not open a judicial case file.
Michigan court-record rules:
MCR 8.119 requires a court register of actions and governs public inspection, copies, and restricted records.
MCR 1.109(D)(9) protects identifiers such as full birth dates, Social Security numbers, and financial-account numbers.
MCL 712A.28 limits general public access to juvenile records.
MCL 15.232, read with court standards, excludes the judicial case-file route from ordinary county FOIA handling.
Barry County Missing Docket Results
An empty public search result does not mean no Barry County case exists. MiCOURT itself warns that coverage and public display are limited. Adoption, juvenile and child-protective proceedings, PPO and ERPO matters, mental-illness matters, wills, and several other categories stay off public display. Sealed or restricted records may show little or nothing. Some courts apply the criminal-sentence seven-year filter described in the statewide portal notice.
Try the other Barry court path when the facts point there. A recent felony may start at D56B. It may reach C05 later. Family cases must follow the local Circuit and Probate allocation, not a guess from a title. For an older case, a certified record, or an authorized restricted-record question, contact the court of record. Ask which access process applies. The Barry County Probate Court offers a separate local route. It covers probate and plan-assigned Family Division matters.
Because Probate keeps its own record channel, a broad family-term search can miss part of the public-access picture.
How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records
Sarah M. VanDenburg serves as Barry County Clerk. She keeps Circuit Court records and the circuit seal at the Historic Courthouse. The current Family Court Plan adds a wrinkle. Under the local partnership, the Trial Court Administrator and court specialists handle day-to-day Family Division record functions. The 56-B District Court and Probate Court are separate. Each maintains its own records through its court offices. A name match alone will not tell you which counter holds the file.

The clerk's office can explain its Circuit-record role. But confirm routing with the court of record before any District, Probate, or Family Division request.
Treat the clerk contact details as a Circuit-record fallback. Before submitting a court-file request, confirm exactly which office holds it.
Barry County Family Docket Custody
Family case labels demand care in Barry County. Circuit Court holds domestic relations, custody, support, PPO, and ERPO records under the 2025 Family Court Plan. Probate files and maintains delinquency, child protection, adoption, and Family Division miscellaneous matters. The map grew more important recently. The Trial Court partnership assigned Circuit Court functions to the Trial Court effective September 23, 2024.
Restrictions still shape what appears publicly. The local plan routes records. It does not promise every Family Division entry shows up in MiCOURT. Ask the relevant court office about access for your exact case category. Ask what public register information, redacted copy, or authorized access process exists.
City-by-City Court Dockets in Barry County
Hastings is the one incorporated city in Barry County. It is home to 7,514 people at the 2020 Census. The county's other incorporated places are villages rather than cities. That means no separate city docket pages sit beneath the county level. Hastings runs no municipal court page through official city channels. A Hastings civil infraction or traffic ticket lands at 56-B District Court. City parking matters go through the City of Hastings itself.
Hastings Court Records
Population 7,514 in the 2020 Census. Hastings police civil-infraction citations route to 56-B District Court; city parking remains a separate city process.
The Hastings Police Department describes the city citation and report-routing distinction.
Barry County Fee Schedule Limits
Barry County posts a court-fee index, and 56-B District Court lists some traffic amounts. Even so, no single complete table exists. Nothing covers plain copies, certified copies, exemplified copies, and record searches all at once. The Trial Court's record/copy form leaves charges open. Per-record and per-page costs are for the court to set. Never assume a statewide figure or a posted balance fits your request. Check Barry County’s court-fee schedule index for the current fee material the court publishes.
Fees shift, so ask first. Call the office that keeps the record before you file any copy or certification request. Confirm the current fee, the payment methods the clerk takes, and where to send the paperwork. A short call saves a rejected request.
Barry County splits its systems by purpose. MiFILE handles electronic filing for the courts. MiCOURT is where the public looks up case information. Neither one promises free downloads of every document on file.
Need a pleading, order, transcript, or recording? Name the exact item first. Then ask the court which request channel and payment setup it accepts right now. This matters most for older paper files, sealed or restricted documents, and anything stored off the public online display.
Map and Directions to the Barry County Historic Courthouse
The 5th Circuit Court's felony and major civil files are kept at the Historic Courthouse, 220 W. State Street in Hastings, the same building as the County Clerk. The 56-B District Court and Probate Court sit two blocks away at Barry County Courts & Law, 206 W. Court Street. The official 2025 Family Court Plan confirms this two-building arrangement, so match the case type to the right building before a visit.
